I was just wondering how many of you got to attend the Information Fair for seniors a couple of months ago.  For those who were not able to attend, let me summarize what happened.  The Yuma County Elder Abuse Task Force, along with the Western Arizona Council of Governments is making sure that senior residents are no longer an easy mark for scam artists roaming around Arizona – the group is showing seniors how they can protect themselves against these predators.
The main purpose was to show seniors how to find resources and options if they fall victim to these people.  It is important to educate seniors about the possibility of elder abuse not only with strangers but with their own family.  The fair asked neighbors of seniors to keep their eyes open – be aware of what is happening in the neighborhood and to your neighbors.
Finally, if you suspect any abuse, please contact Adult Protective Services at 1-877-SOS-ADULT; your call will remain anonymous.  In addition, your call can save your neighbor’s life.  The Task Force is hoping to have more and more information fairs and get the community involved.  If you find you are the victim of elder abuse, I urge you to contact an experienced Arizona Elder Abuse attorney who will fight for your rights.
